Elements and Performance Criteria
- Assess bathing requirements
- Breed type bathing needs are established with client.
- Animal's coat length and condition, including condition of ears, eyes and toenails, are assessed in relation to its age and breed.
- Animal condition is evaluated and reported to client.
- Advice is provided to client, as required, regarding maintenance regimes for the animal's coat or condition.
- Prepare and bathe animal
- Risks associated with bathing nominated animals are determined and minimised in accordance with occupational health and safety (OHS) and animal welfare requirements.
- Bathing facilities and equipment are prepared.
- Animal is restrained for bathing, as required, and monitored for signs of distress.
- Animal is brushed prior to bathing in order to remove dead skin, knots and loose hair.
- Appropriate water temperature, shampoos and supplementary treatments, including external parasite treatment, if required, are selected in accordance with client requirements and the animal's breed.
- Animal is bathed and rinsed using industry-recognised bathing techniques.
- Complete bathing procedures
- Animal is restrained safely and managed until owner's arrival.
- Hydro-bath and associated equipment are cleaned and disinfected in accordance with organisational policies and procedures.
- Waste is disposed of in accordance with relevant legislative requirements.
- Consumables and other equipment are checked and returned to storage, supplies audited and documented.
- Bathing services provided are documented for invoicing.
- Animals are returned to owner, bathing services reviewed and any follow-up requirements are discussed.
